UK motorists need great care with winter driving

UK motorists have been warned that they need to watch their power and speeds while they are driving in the upcoming winter months.

IAM Drive & Survive driver training specialist Simon Elstow stated that there are a few standby tips that drivers should follow on the roads to help keep them safe, including the basic tip that it is best to maintain a lower speed whenever the road is cold, slippery, or wet.  He also added that it is important to realise that a car applies a great deal of power to the road and as a result four wheel drive vehicles will easily spin ouot of control when the weather is bad.

Elstow explained that acceleration and power will not do any good once the car is out of control, which is common when the roads are slippery and wet, which is why people should stop and think about whether they really should head out in poor weather.

The news comes following the announcement that the Toyota Yaris has received a five star rating from the NCAP crash testing for its safety features, so motorists should consider this vehicle if they are concerned about driving in poor weather over the next few months.
