A new survey raises concern that misunderstanding of The Highway Code may be leading to more accidents and a compromised state of road safety. The poll took into account the answers of 5,000 motorists and revealed that a large percentage of those included were unable to answer many picture questions and questions that concerned general road knowledge that are a part of The Highway Code.
Goodyear, the leading tyre production company, commissioned the study that showed that 54% of those who took the test did not know what to do when a traffic light shines red and amber. It revealed that 48% of those who participated in the survey did not know that you are supposed to stop 13 car lengths in advance or 53 metres at least if you are driving at 50mph with about a fifth responding that they could make the stop at only 36 metres.
