Tailgating is biggest worry for drivers

UK motorists believe that the offence of tailgating is the most serious that is committed on a motorway with over 85% saying is it highly dangerous and causes serious situations, this from a survey by GEM Motoring Assist.

Over 66% said it was the offence of driving whilst talking on a mobile phone would be a serious risk while close to two thirds middle lane driving when the left is empty is equally dangerous and should be enforced more strictly.

One in five surveyed a stricter enforcement of speeding is needed with over 50% saying an increase of the national speed limit would be a good thing. The government and other road safety organizations are against raising the national speed limit to 80MPH.

Over 50% said that L drivers should never be allowed to practice before their test on motorways while over 80% saying a mandatory follow up test for motorway driving skills is needed.

Close to 70% prior to driving the motorway do not take any additional precautions like checking the water or even tyre pressure even though the problems that could happen from a break down on the motorway with over 80% saying they did not feel more vulnerable by not checking those things.
