A nine year old in Cumbria has been arrested for drink driving records from police show. Because of legal reasons, the boy cannot be named but was taken into custody and breathalysed by the police. He was released without charge once the officers verified his age as he was too young to be charged and accountable for his actions.
Over the past two years there have been thousands of arrests in the north of England of people under 18 making the nine year old just one of many. At the same time North Yorkshire Police arrested for car theft a ten year old and Durham Police arrested for aggravated vehicle taking, a 12 year old.
These were just a few of the over 2,400 juveniles that have been arrested for crimes including drink driving, under age driving, car theft and aggravated vehicle taking. A member of Brake, the charity campaigning for reduced speed limits, is demanding that schools teach road safety education.
The dangers of driving without correct and proper training must be taught to young people and this needs to be addresses urgently the charity worker said because it is very concerning that the young generation is risking their lives and others on the road.
