Forty percent of young drivers feel it is fine to break the 30mph limit by at least 10mph or more according to a recent survey. Of those drivers aged 16 to 21, one in four said they see nothing wrong with drinking up to a pint and a half of beer or the equivalent in alcohol before taking to the road.

These results of the survey were published as part of the campaign to overhaul the learning to drive system and was launched by Brake, a road safety charity, the Co-operative of Insurance Company and the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

The UN Decade of Action for Road Safety was launched with the campaign. The poll of over 500 between 16 and 21 showed that 9% of the males in this age group thought it fine to drink over the limit of one and a half pints of beer or its alcohol equivalent before driving. The organizations that launched the campaign want a restriction put on the time of day youngsters can drive.
