hunterSarah Hunter, aged 30, told officers that she was taken out of her boyfriend’s vehicle and raped by two men in an alleyway, which prompted specialist officers to spend seven hours taking her testimony while forensic teams combed the area.

However, Hunter has now admitted that she created the story in order to hide the fact that she had crashed her boyfriend’s car, for which she was not covered to drive.

Hunter told Coventry Magistrates Court that she took her boyfriend’s Astra on April 28th without asking for permission, and then crashed it around 3am.  She admitted to using the vehicle without insurance, failing to stop after causing an accident, and wasting police time.

Katie Barker the prosecutor told the court that she reported she had been raped and attacked, at which point paramedics recorded her as being hysterical.  Residents nearby were reportedly disturbed and shocked to hear about the rape.

Barker added that Hunter had apologized for her behaviour and to the officers who spent a great amount of effort, money, and time on her case.  The prosecutor added that it had a large effect on the community, and also may affect the way that testimony is treated of victims that have genuinely faced rape.

Hunter was released on bail and ordered to return back to court for sentencing on June 25th.
