The Obama Administration may make a move to jam or block cell phone signals from all automobiles, it has been reported.   The consideration is seen as an attempt to reduce accidents and deaths from distracted cell phone usage.  Many states and municipalities have laws against using cell phones while driving, but the implications coming out of the Department of Transportation are regarding technology to jam or block the capacity to call from a car.

Ray LaHood, the Transportation Secretary is well known as a proponent of prohibiting automotive cell calls.  In fact, his Department has recently taken on a campaign to fight the practise, featuring propaganda in the way of films entitled, “The Faces of Distracted Driving” wherein victims and their families speak out against auto accidents resultant of cell calls.

However, using technology to block or prohibit the ability of an individual to make calls from their car is quite a step beyond what local authorities and states have done by creating laws against the habit.

LaHood has recently stated that he believes it will eventually be done; saying that he believes the technology exists to make jamming or blocking adaptive to automobiles. We can be sure that out transport people will be watching these developments in the US closely
