OK, so you decided that you want to buy a campervan. Here is what you should perhaps keep in mind.
As with many purchase decisions, and in particular big ones, your choice is always pretty much determined by your budget. However, when it comes to certain purchases, the budget, whilst important, should not be the only important thing that drives your decision making process.
Size matters. Think of the space you need – this should be on top of the list of your considerations. Whilst smaller campervan cannot accommodate four people comfortably, choosing a big motorhome when a smaller campervan will do is also not the best idea in either case. Think carefully about who is going to use the vehicle, and think about not only the passengers’ space, such as number of beds, seating places, etc., but also about the luggage space. Choose the vehicle that is easy to drive, but which is big or small enough to fit your needs. In either case – do not underestimate the space a few people require to live together. It is less of a concern if you are faced with the beautiful weather and you can spend lot of your time outdoors. However, if the weather is bad or you spend a lot of time on the road driving, sitting inside, there should be have enough room for all passengers to relax, feel comfortable and enjoy the ride. Also remember that EU countries often require all adults in the vehicle to be wearing a seatbelt, so be sure that your campervan has enough seats available as well as seatbelts for all your passangers.
Another very important consideration is where you are planning to go traveling with your campervan. If the road takes you to off the beaten track roads, mountains, or generally poor quality bumpy roads, then you should be better off if you avoid big size campervans and motorhomes. Smaller size vehicles will much better cope with more demanding roads than larger vehicles will do.
You might also want to think about whether you are going to buy a brand new campervan or a used one. Whilst brand new campervan or motorhome certainly sounds attractive, used ones come at much more affordable prices. However, if you decide to buy a used one, make sure that it comes with a full service history. This will show you the vehicle’s condition, the last time it has been inspected and how well it has been maintained.
There are many types of campervans and motorhomes to choose from indeed, and the type you choose should reflect your real needs. Don’t make any rash decision and go for VW campervans just because they look so cool, when used Mercedes for sale or Citroen can be a better buy overall. Each campervan has its advantages and disadvantages, and you need to find one that fits your needs the best.
