When you’re buying a car, it’s not just the upfront cost and the car credit that you’ll have to think about. You’re going to have to consider the overall running costs of the beast and whether it will give you a bang for your buck in the long run.

With this in mind, we’ve made a list of what the best value-for-money cars are right now on the market in order to make your spending decision a worthwhile one.

The Dacia Duster

The Dacia Duster has an incredibly low price, although this will be given for the lowest-end of the specifications it could come with. It’s remarkably cheap, still, for a compact and robust SUV.

Although some detractors would argue against buying it owing to the quality of its interior, for the price, you’re not going to find a more practical SUV anywhere else. It can take 475 litres, beating many other SUVs that are far more expensive.

Kia Rio 1.1D ISG

Selling for a stunning price – below £12,000 – this is the most affordable and efficient hatchback you could possibly buy right now. It’s worth it just for the low CO2 emissions and efficiency.

VW Polo

This is by far the classiest and the most affordable ‘supermini’ one can find on the market at the moment, with an extremely cosy interior matched with superb handling. Over time, you will find that not only was it affordable as a purchase, but very affordable to run and maintain, too.

Mazda MX-5

This car is the most affordable roadster-type vehicle that you can buy for your money. It’s fun, stylish, and the engines deliver some powerhouse performances when pushed. It comes equipped with well-controlled steering, too, and the rear-wheel chassis gives it some good balance.

With discounts, you could purchase this car for as little as £15,000.

Audi A3 1.6 TDI

This hatchback is simply a joy to drive, and will no doubt feel like a satisfying vehicle to sit behind the wheel of after you’ve found out for how little you can buy it for.

It comes with three different suspension settings, which you can change for no cost. It’s a genuinely fast car and it’s definitely the most affordable yet prestigious one that you could expect to pay for.

Porsche Boxster

Okay, it’s definitely not the most affordable car out of this list, but in its defence you’ll find that over time, the value you get for your money is outstanding. Obviously, we don’t have to belabour the other reasons for getting it, such as its stunning beauty or its considerable power.
