MP gets ban for speeding

The former Redcar Labour MP Vera Baird, was stopped for a speeding offence on Aug 30 last year. When she appeared before Pontypridd Magistrates she explained that she still had in her possession a large number of constituents files, totalling around 800, which would need to be sifted through and returned.  She said that normally she would use her car to deliver these

After consideration, the Magistrates decided that under that under the totting up system she would face a driving ban of six months and a fine of £400. Baird stated afterwards that it was true that she was driving above the limit and felt that the court had carefully considered her points and in the end their actions were “perfectly reasonable”.
