There are twice as many convertibles today than there were ten years ago in the UK. Over 900,000 are on the roads and it seems owning soft tops are going to continue being popular despite the UK’s lack of sunshine. A recent survey suggests that the reasons for a convertible were feeling the wind through your hair as well as the appealing style and status one feels driving one. Thirty percent said they purchased one since it was their dream car and 10% said they wanted to impress family and friends.
An AA spokesman said that in our pressured lives that many feel it can be a great pleasure to look forward to driving home with good weather after work. However the survey said owners lower their roof only about 10 hours per month with it dropping to three days during the dead of winter. They are also vandalized more than any other car with almost 25% saying their car had been vandalized or stolen or keyed by scratching a key down the side of the car.
