Lantra Awards are now offering three fully revised off road driving courses for 4X4’s, suitable for recreational, professional and also experienced drivers who want to use a 4X4 vehicle off the road.

These courses are beneficial to both learners and hobbyists who are interested in off  road sports, leisure and recreation. These courses have been specially developed for individuals who have different levels of experience. The available courses are 4X4 Recreational off road driving, 4×4 professional off road driving and off road driving for experienced drivers.

These courses are all designed to help learners:

• Prepare the vehicle for use off road
• Assess the suitability of the ground/route
• Identify a 4×4’s loading and towing capacities
• Drive over a variety of terrain
• Identify risks associated with off road 4×4 use
• Understand how to comply with the legal requirements of off road driving.

It is a legal requirement for people who drive off road in business to undergo training, this is under PUWER, the ‘Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulation 1998’. This means that employers have to provide adequate training so their drivers can use 4X4’s safely off road. These courses were designed under the watchful eye of the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that they reflected the current practices for safe working.

The head of product development at Lantra Awards, Lesley Barr, has said that serious accidents involving 4X4’s can and do occur, mainly due to improper training but when they are used correctly, 4X4’s are extremely versatile vehicles that have a wide range of uses. Even the most experienced of drivers can find themselves in potentially hazardous and dangerous situations, so a required level of training is vital.

She added that Lantra Awards have many years of experience developing high standard driving courses, and these 4X4 courses are no exception. They are being delivered exclusively through a wide network of approved and registered instructors and providers, ensuring that learners are being trained by people who are both experienced and qualified to work with 4X4’s.
